Alexander
Mundy
Age: 60
Height: 59
Weight: 210 lb
Nickname: The Old Man
Traditionalist Alexander Mundy, the chief executive officer of United
Rail, looks like an elder statesman, with the beginnings of a small,
rounded belly.
Personal background: A true American, Mundy traces his descent
back to the Mayflower. He either knows, or knows someone who knows,
everybody.
As a young man, Mundy had drilled into him a sense of loyalty to family
and respect for hard work. His only son , William, is not interested
in either of those, nor in transportation, construction, infrastructure,
engineering, business, or anything to do with United Rail.
Mundy's philanthropy is traditional -- every year he donates to the
United Way. In fact, United Rail gave the same amount to the United
Way for 20 years, until his wife, Phoebe, suggested that Mundy might
consider an increase. "Think of it as an investment," she
said
His one hobby is collecting art. His private gallery is filled with
Warhol prints, including some rare preliminary pen and ink drawings
that Warhol did himself. Although Mundy worked together with the architect
to design the gallery, he seldom invites anyone in.
Business history: His great great-grandfather was in charge
of building the TransAtlantic Railroad for Union Pacific. He comes from
a long line of corporate railroad executives, and considers himself
a leading authority on railroad history and technology. With the sole
exception of his losses to Maxlore, Mundy never fails in financial matters.
He has a knack amounting to genius for maximizing profits. In both
his personal and professional lives, hes a pennypincher.
